For Zion's sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth.

L'ma'an Tzion lo echesheh. U'l'ma'an Yerushalayim lo eshkot. Ad yetzi ka no ga tzidkah. Lo echesheh.

למען ציון לא אחשׁה ולמען ירושׁלם לא אשׁקוט עד יצא כנגה צדקה וישׁועתה כלפיד יבער

My First Day At Work In The Land ... by Tommy

At about 9:00 am - Israel time, Eyal (my host) says; "Come, I want you to meet your new friend."

After introducing me, I realized that My New Friend was not so much a new friend after all. We go way back. This friend is quite an interesting creature. He is very strong, yet cannot think for himself. He is utterly hopeless on his own, but with a strong arm, he will well outlast the strongest man alive. When that man quits, my friend is once again helpless. He is not a very nice friend - he gives blisters to your hand, aches to your muscles, and a very tired body.

Ok, have you guessed who my "new friend" is? His name is The Digging Bar :)

So here is my summery of the days work.
Blisters? A thing of the past. Raw skin is what I have now.
Gloves?  Great idea, after I've done 8 posts without them.
Post hole diggers? A thing of the past, or in the future ... I'm still trying to decided. But in the meantime, I use a bowl-shaped-thing with a handle on it. It work quite well but also adds to the blisters ... I mean raw skin.

Some may ask "Tommy went to Israel to do that?" My answer, "Ken (Yes)". This is not the only thing that I came for, but it is one of them and I am enjoying myself and would not have it any other way. If I had to do this every day to stay in Israel, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Well, it is past my bedtime and I have one more post (out of original thirteen) to dig in the morning ... Oh, did I mention that I have to dig these holes about 2 1/2 feet deep? What fun :)

Shalom until next time, T
