It sounded to me as if the writer of this Psalm was having a hard time. He was so troubled that he could not speak (verse 4), except to cry out to YHWH. He was questioning YHWH's faithfulness ... in verse 9, he asks:Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will he be favourable no more? Is his mercy clean gone for ever? doth his promise fail for evermore?
Hath God forgotten to be gracious? hath he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah. There are times in life when we are in trouble. It may be our fault, or it may not be, but either way ... what is our response? In verses 10 through 12, we read about the correct response:
When life gets tough, and troubles have you down, meditate on the goodness of our Heavenly Father. Talk about His works, and the wonders that He has done. Remember His faithfulness to His children, and rejoice! And I said, This is my infirmity: but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High. I will remember the works of YHWH: surely I will remember thy wonders of old. I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.
His mercy is not "clean gone for ever" (don't you just love the KJV?!). He is the same yesterday, today, and forever ... and He will never leave or forsake us ... nothing is impossible for Him.
Alright ... I'm off to bed now :) I'll try to post some pictures soon (maybe tomorrow!).
