For Zion's sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth.

L'ma'an Tzion lo echesheh. U'l'ma'an Yerushalayim lo eshkot. Ad yetzi ka no ga tzidkah. Lo echesheh.

This Week ...

Shalom Y'all,

I imagine you're somewhat familiar with what is going on at the United Nations this week. For anyone who is not ...  from what I understand, the Palestinians are going to ask the Security Council for a vote on full UN membership for a Palestinian state. There are two points I would like to make:

1. When was this Palestinian state created? What are its borders? I'm not an expert on the UN and its procedures, but it seems like the Palestinians are putting the cart before the horse here. Has there been any other state that has been recognized before the UN before it became a state? If anyones knows the answers to these questions, please let me know!

2. The Palestinians want Israel's land. Let me repeat that: the Palestinians want Israel's land. Even if you don't agree with what the scriptures have to say about Israel's borders and what land belongs to them, you can't deny the historical facts ... this disputed territory was captured by Israel during wars that were begun by Arabs. Since when does a nation defend itself against invaders, capture new territory during the process, and then hand that land back over to their enemies? Just imagine with me for a minute ... think about the UN voting for the USA to give back all the territory they took from Mexico during the Mexican-American war. What would the response be? Or let's take it a step further ... and give back the land that we won from the British in the Revolutionary War!

A book could be written (and they have been!) about the Palestinian-Israeli struggle and all the right and wrong that has been done, but that doesn't really change the facts. The facts are that YHWH chose Israel as His people and He gave them a land with borders that are far larger than what they have now. Israel is not a perfect nation - far from it! Believe me, I've been there! But it is still the apple of YHWH's eye (Zechariah 2:8), and as long as the sun gives light by day and the moon and the stars give light by night, He will not cast them off (Jeremiah 31:35,36).

Moon-rise in Jerusalem

I would like to encourage all of you to be in prayer for Israel and this whole situation. In Psalm 122:6, we are instructed "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee." May His will be done!
